As of July 1, 2025, Professor Dr. Constanze Schmidt has been appointed University Professor of Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine in Göttingen and the new Director of the Department of Cardiology and Pneumology at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG). She is the first and currently the only woman in Germany to hold a full professorship in cardiology.

As a clinician and researcher, Professor Schmidt is personally committed to improving opportunities for medical trainees in the field of translational medicine in order to advance cardiovascular care. At CRC 1550, she leads the Project “Role of ETV transcription factors in atrial cardiomyopathy” (Project B08).
